INTERNATIONAL SAXOPHONE COMPETITION
organised as part of the
INTERNATIONAL SAXOPHONE FESTIVAL – EUROPEAN SAXOPHONE FORUM 2024

COMPETITION REGULATIONS

1. The International Saxophone Competition organised as part of the International Saxophone Festival – European Saxophone Forum 2024 will be held in Wrocław, Poland, on 14 and 15 March 2024, and it is open to saxophone students of music schools.

2. The auditions will be held in the following categories:
a) Category I – students up to and including the age of 12 (born after 2012)
b) Category II – students aged 13-14 (born in 2010-2011)
c) Category III – students aged 15-16 (born in 2008-2009)
d) Category IV – students aged 17-19 (born in 2005-2007)

3. Each participant is obliged to prepare freely chosen artistic programme, solo or with accompaniment, with the maximum time limit of:
a) Category I – up to 5 minutes
b) Category II – up to 8 minutes
c) Category III – up to 10 minutes
d) Category IV – up to 15 minutes

4. The competition consists of a single round; participants are not obliged to play from memory.

5. Participants shall register for the Competition by completing an on-line entry form available at: www.musicforum.pl.

6. The entry fee is €35. Participants shall pay the fee to the Competition Secretary on site before the start of the auditions or transfer the fee by 1 March 2024 to the following bank account:

7. The auditions in all categories will be held at the Karol Szymanowski Primary and Secondary General Music School in Wrocław on 14 and 15 March 2024 (Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego Street 25, 52-443 Wrocław), and they shall be open to the public.

8. The number of participants is limited. The participants shall be qualified for the Competition in the order of entry form submission, and they will be informed of their qualification via e-mail no later than 3 days after submitting the entry form.

9. The order of performances will be determined by the Organisers after the registration list has been closed.

10. The Competition will be judged by an international Jury.

11. The Jury will evaluate performances, select winners, and award prizes. The prize pool is €2,400 The Competition scoring is secret. The Jury’s decisions are final and irrevocable.

12. The scoring range is 1-25 points. The Grand Prix winner will be the participant receiving the highest score in the range of 24.00-25.00 points; the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners shall be the participants who have received the three consecutive highest scores in a given category, but not less than 21 points. The Jury will award honourable mentions to all participants who have scored more than 20 points. The Jury shall not award ex-aequo prizes and may choose not to award any of the prizes.

13. The Jury will assess the artistic level of the performance in terms of, among other things, style, intonation, timbre, dynamics, phrasing, sound aesthetics, choice of repertoire, and overall artistic presentation.

14. If the time limit is exceeded, the Jury has the right to stop the performance and not to listen to the entire artistic presentation, which will not affect the assessment of the performance.

15. The results of the Competition shall be announced on 15 March 2024 in the afternoon, after the auditions have finished. The Competition prize winners in all categories (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and Grand Prix winners) are obliged to perform at the Prize Winners’ Concert, which will take place at the Concert Hall of the Karol Szymanowski Primary and Secondary General Music School in Wrocław in the evening of the same day.

16. Participants of legal age (and parents or legal guardians of underage participants), in addition to completing the online entry form, are required to sign a declaration specified in Appendix 1 hereto on the day of the audition.

17. Only online entry forms shall be accepted, and the deadline for submitting the form is 1 March 2024.

18. A minor participant, i.e. a person who is under 18 years of age at the time of entry, may only be entered for the Competition by his/her parent or legal guardian.

19. Minors may participate in the Competition only under the care of a parent or legal guardian.

20. All Competition participants can additionally take part in the Saxophone Orchestra festival project free of charge. The participants who decide to do so are obliged to participate in the saxophone orchestra workshop on 14-16 March 2024 (after the competition auditions) and to perform at the Final Festival Concert in the Concert Hall of the Academy of Music in Wrocław (Jana Pawła II Square, no. 2, 50-043 Wrocław) on 16 March 2024.

21. The International Saxophone Festival – European Saxophone Forum 2024 will be held in Wrocław on 14-16 March 2024. The Saxophone Orchestral Workshop will be held at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław.

22. Participants taking part in the Saxophone Orchestra Workshop shall be e-mailed the sheet music (alto, tenor or soprano saxophone parts) for the Final Concert by 1 March 2024. The Saxophone Orchestra will perform 4 pieces during the Final Concert.
The repertoire shall include: 1) G. Bizet – Carmen; 2) traditional Klezmer music – Hava Nagila; 3) Queen – Queen arrangements; 4) J. Kern – Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.

23. The Organisers and Co-organisers shall not provide the participants of the Competition/Festival with accommodation, board or insurance, and are not responsible for any accidents, theft and other damage arising during the event. It is each participant’s responsibility to be insured.

24. The Organisers and Co-organisers reserve the right to make changes to the Regulations. Any changes to the Regulations will be published each time on the website: www.musicforum.pl.

25. The Organisers and Co-organisers reserve the right to cancel the Competition due to material reasons beyond their control. Participants of the Competition will be informed about this decision by e-mail; any entry fees that have been paid shall be refunded.

Appendix No. 1
DECLARATION

I. By declaring my participation – my child’s/charge’s participation – in the INTERNATIONAL SAXOPHONE COMPETITION organised as part of the International Festival – EUROPEAN SAXOPHONE FORUM 2024 (“the Competition/Festival”), I confirm that I have read and accepted the Regulations of the Competition/Festival and shall be bound by them.

II. I declare that:
1. I consent to photographs and audio and video materials with my image and my child’s/charge’s image as a Competition/Festival participant being made, recorded, repeatedly used, processed and copied by any means, without my every time approval, for the Organisers’ and Co-organisers’ promotional and archival purposes,
2. I grant to the Organisers/Co-organisers of the Competition/Festival, free of charge, the right to use the photographs and audio-visual recordings of my image as a participant of the Competition/Festival and of my artistic performances in the following fields of use:
a) recording and reproduction – making digital recordings of sound and images and publishing them on a CD and/or DVD, or other media, for non-commercial purposes only,
b) trading in the copies of the recorded image – marketing, lending or leasing the original or the copies,
c) distribution in a manner different than specified in a) above – broadcasting, rebroadcasting and playing back the image recording, as well as making the image publicly available on selected websites.
3. I consent to the processing of my personal data and my child’s/charge’s personal data required for participation in the Forum by the Competition/Festival Organisers and Co-organisers pursuant to the Act of 10 May 2018 on Protection of Personal Data (Dziennik Ustaw of 2018 item 1000) and the Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (OJ L 119, p. 1), and I confirm that I have been informed that:
1) The co-administrators of the personal data contained herein are:

The Personal Data Protection Officer: https://cea-art.pl/pracownicy-cea/ is the administrator of all personal data necessary to fulfil the Competition organiser’s tasks as defined by law (other rights of the person are specified at: https://cea-art.pl/ochrona-danych-osobowych/) including those arising from the contractor’s duty to report to the organiser.
2) The above-mentioned personal data will be processed for the purposes connected with the organization of the Competition/Festival.
3) The personal data may be transferred to third countries in connection with its processing in a GOOGLE form. The data from Google forms is transferred to Google servers. For more information on Google’s privacy policy, see Google Privacy & Terms: https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=en. Giving consent to the processing of data for the purpose of participation in the Competition, followed by the submission of such data, means consent to this transfer.
4) I have the right to access and correct the above-mentioned personal data.
5) I have the right to access, rectify, delete and transmit my personal data, to restrict the processing of the personal data and to withdraw my consent at any time. The withdrawal of consent shall not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.
6) The submitted personal data shall be retained and processed for a period necessary to complete the Competition/Festival and to settle all the dues resulting from it as required by provisions of law.
7) The processed data shall not be subject to profiling, it will not be transferred to third countries or international organisations.
8) The data may be made available to authorities that are authorised to obtain such data by generally applicable law.
9) I have the right to lodge a complaint with the Head of the Office for Personal Data Protection (Stawki Street 2, 00-193 Warsaw) should I find that the processing of my personal data violates the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulations.
10) Submitting the data is voluntary, a refusal to submit the data will, however, result in being ineligible for participation in the Competition/Festival.
4. I consent to being notified of future artistic and educational events organised by the Wrocław Branch of the Association of Polish Music Artists via the e-mail address given in the entry form.
